Alison Moon, Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group’s Director of Transformation and Quality, was invited by Penny Brohn UK to meet HRH the Prince of Wales during his recent visit to the charity based in Pill.

HRH, who is a patron of the charity, spent the afternoon speaking to staff and volunteers finding out about their work to support people living with cancer.

After being welcomed by the Penny Brohn Community Choir, HRH watched a cooking session before meeting the gardening volunteers and planting a sapling to replace an 180-year-old Cedar of Lebanon tree, which became too diseased and was recently felled.

"It was a very interesting and enjoyable afternoon. The focus was very much on how people with cancer can benefit from a holistic approach, catering for their physical, emotional and wellbeing needs. HRH and I spoke about the importance of food and nutrition as medicine, as this is sometimes underrated. Penny Brohn has a clear philosophy which pulls the mind, body and soul together. This is something that the CCG is working towards when developing its Living Well and Beyond Cancer strategy."
